"This is a location portrait of Professor Joseph Richardson, Jr. at the shock trauma center in Baltimore in front of the area where ambulances arrive. His research crosses the boundaries between academia and the streets, where he seeks to find a way out of trauma for young Black men. His research includes visiting Washington-Baltimore area hospitals and shock trauma centers and working with victims of gun violence and trauma, as well as working with affected Black youth to educate and assist in recovery and navigating the challenges of neighborhoods dominated by gangs."
