Big Blue and You—Prepare For Takeoff!
From the Nominator
"Every school has a virtual tour. Every school knows how to make an admissions marketing video. And it feels like every school does glorious drone footage of their campuses. But how can you evolve these tried-and-true strategies and take them to the next level? How can you make the familiar fresh, and message to your audience without feeling tired or recycled? This was our challenge to tackle for the 2022-2023 admission season.
After several brainstorming sessions between the admission and communications departments, we hatched a plan to partner with viral sensation JayByrd Films. Our goal was to create an immersive video experience highlighting our vibrant campus community. Deploying an FPV drone, we were able to capture never-before-seen perspectives on our historic campus while capturing the day-to-day life of our students.
The film premiered at our winter open house for prospective families and students and was released the following week on our public channels. The response was overwhelming from all audiences. Attendees at the open house were blown away by the opportunities shown. Alumni watching on YouTube connected with the nostalgia the film evoked. Current students marveled at seeing their friends on Instagram break the algorithm. Across all channels, the film has 41,131 views, 195 comments, and 427 shares as of January 30, 2023. The piece will continue to be used by admissions officers on the road at various fairs, conferences, and events."
