CFA Magazine Design
From the Nominator
Boston University’s College of Fine Arts (CFA) is a creative school of artists, performers, and musicians. Its alumni magazine reflects that with a design that takes a bold, non-traditional approach to type and color and tries to be on the leading edge of modern design. Each issue covers CFA-related stories from a variety of different angles: interviews, descriptions of the working process, portfolio-style showcases, and behind-the-scenes stories. These are presented using creative photography and stylish illustration that puts forward CFA as a forward-thinking, stimulating environment.
From the Judges
This issue of CFA magazine stands out for its excellent use of typography, photography, and illustration. The work is simply beautiful and it's evident that the designer has a great understanding of how to use the grid to create a visually appealing publication. What's even more impressive is that each section is distinct, but still feels cohesive and not disjointed from the whole experience. The restrained use of illustration adds a nice touch and enhances the overall design.
