CMCI Now Fall 2022
From the Nominator
"Established in 2015, the College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) became the first new college on campus in over 50 years when it combined academic disciplines that had a rich history—journalism, advertising, media studies, and communication—with new programs such as information science that developed from the rise of cutting-edge technologies.
We've used CMCI Now with great success to showcase the strengths of our academic disciplines for student recruitment and to send to donors and alumni. After each edition, we receive emails, and many of those are of the sentiment that now they understand why the college was created and the opportunities it’s creating for students.
The key to our success this year was highlighting 100 years of journalism at CU. One of the branding challenges we’ve had as a new college—without journalism in the college name—is overcoming the perception that the journalism program went away.
The fall 2022 issue of CMCI Now features a combination of in-depth historical stories and archival photos from across the decades, along with photo galleries of student work and features on faculty research. The message is that journalism is alive and well at CU Boulder and has been for 100 years and that journalism is flourishing in an interdisciplinary college, among other majors.
One of our measurements of success is the response from alumni who wrote in sharing their own memories, which we, in turn, are using in a feature in our spring digital magazine."
