Courage and Sacrifice: A Tribute to the People of Ukraine
From the Nominator
"The fall 2022 edition of “Summit” was dedicated to stories of Ukraine, including how the war was fueled by propaganda, how family members living far away are coping, how an alum experienced the war first-hand, and how Canada was working to help.
Alberta is home to more than 345,000 people with Ukrainian heritage, which is why Russia’s 2022 invasion of the country affected so many of the province’s people on a personal level. There are now more than 4,000 Ukrainian nationals in Alberta seeking safety while the war continues.
The thought behind the “Summit” Ukraine dedication issue was to illuminate how closely tied many Albertans are to the Russo-Ukrainian war. We have the voices of experts in propaganda, an alumna whose family had to leave their home in an extremely dangerous area, an alumnus who had to escape the country at the beginning of the war, and professors who are well-versed in Canadian policies for safely housing Ukrainians while the conflict continues."
