First-Year Seminar Brochure
From the Nominator
"First-year seminar courses are a great way for Gettysburg to showcase its distinctiveness and value as a liberal arts and sciences college. We use the brochures to attract prospective students and retain first-year students. While the courses have changed over the years to stay current with what is going on in the world, the first-year seminar brochures have not seen a major update since the early 2000s. The brochures were originally designed to be informational, text-heavy mini course catalogs with very few photos.
A few years ago, we redesigned the first-year seminars brochures to be more visual, scannable, include multiple points of entry, and better fit our strategic needs. We used a combination of our own campus/classroom photos with stock photos/illustrations to depict a wide variety of courses. The redesigned brochures were a perfect illustration of what our rigorous academic life is like and our distinctiveness as a liberal arts and science college.
In 2022, we took it even further. In the new brochures, each seminar has its own unique cover art. We took inspiration from companies such as Apple, Amazon, Netflix, Pandora, and Spotify, studying their marketing strategies and adopting them for Gettysburg. Accepted students can scan the whole brochure quickly with the help of the unique cover arts that include photo, drawing, and conceptual arts. We purposefully chose to include a wide variety of images in the brochures to appeal to the interest of every student."
