From the Nominator
"Honor Up Close" took on a near-taboo subject at the University of Virginia: the health of the honor system, one of the nation's oldest, most storied and remarkable for being entirely student-run. Through rigorous investigation and analysis, what we found was a system suffering from observable and measurable disengagement—by students, faculty, and entire schools of the university. We also shed light on a way forward.
From the Judges
The judges were thoroughly impressed with the nomination, particularly the excellent reporting and writing that uncovered previously unreported scandals. The writer showed great courage and dedication in investigating a complex and controversial topic. The level of detail and data analysis in the feature was truly impressive.
