"Houston: 2022 Journey to the Top"
From the Nominator
"In 2021, the University of Houston announced its bold new initiative to become a top 50 public university. Achieving this vision requires support from stakeholders across the university, in the community and elected representatives.
In this special edition publication, produced in lieu of the traditional spring UH Magazine, “Houston: 2022 Journey to the Top” outlined UH’s journey to the top 50: what it entails and the transformative efforts UH is taking to get there. Using real stories, people and data, the book consists of eight stories filed under one of four sections that match UH’s strategic priorities: student success, “On the Rise” (research and funding), athletics and “Problem Solvers” (university-level initiatives focused on health, health care and energy).
The printed piece was sent to approximately 12,000 stakeholders and the digital piece was emailed to 11,000 faculty, staff, alumni and donors. The book was produced in-house by the Division of University Marketing and Communications.
The publication was provided to key stakeholders, including to UH System Board of Regents; all members of UH’s voluntary boards, which primarily consist of business leaders and donors; UH’s delegation of elected officials; and members of the Greater Houston Partnership. It was handed out to all attendees of the president’s fall address later that year.
The publication was a critical asset in galvanizing support behind UH’s top 50 vision, and it laid the foundation for UH’s request for a $1 billion endowment from the Texas Legislature during the 2023 Texas Legislative Session."
From the Judges
This case statement had a very clean design with a lot of white space. The writing is strong and we liked the upbeat message from the president. There was a clear call to action and understanding of the impact at various places across their institution.
