Kummer Institute Annual Report
From the Nominator
"In 2020, Missouri S&T received a record-breaking gift of $300 million from June Kummer and her late husband, Fred, a Missouri S&T graduate. In 2021, the university published its first annual report on the impact of the gift.
The university had communicated updates on the impact the gift, but by the end of the 2020-21 fiscal year, it was time to showcase the gift’s momentum to constituents beyond S&T’s target audience. Guided by a subtle, understated design that incorporates aspirations but prioritizes accomplishments, S&T’s marketing communications team established a working group of writers, designers, photographers, faculty, researchers and academic leaders to produce a printed report true to the vision of June and Fred Kummer. The report explores how S&T has quickly addressed the priorities set forth by the Kummers when they made their gift, including the establishment of research centers, support for faculty and student research, fostering local and regional economic development, bringing STEM curriculum and outreach activities to underserved and underrepresented schools throughout Missouri, and preparing S&T students to be the entrepreneurial leaders of the future.
The report was distributed at the second annual celebration of the gift, an occasion known at S&T as Kummer Day. It has also been shared with members of the board that oversee the Kummer Institute, and distributed personally across the state and region those ready to help Missouri become a globally recognized center of entrepreneurship and innovation."
From the Judges
This is a crisp, authentic report that appeals to an audience that wants the visual story, as well as the stats. Great content—having digestible bits and positive titling helps the reader ease through the report. We found it to be well balance—design, stories, charts, etc.
