Look into the Eye
From the Nominator
"The design and editorial team created a clever, eye-catching, impactful, informative yet very brief piece that makes clear the breadth and depth of hurricane-related research and programming led by the university’s scientists and engineers. The piece highlights ongoing work while progressing toward the announcement of a newly-awarded, multi-university grant that recognizes and builds upon FIU’s strong record within the field.
The brochure relies on a series of die cuts that draw in the reader with colors and textures. The interior images are arresting for both their content and the manner in which, together, they form a cohesive narrative. The short, carefully crafted text works in tandem with the visuals. It aims to capture, in as few words as possible, the power of the various related projects and initiatives being conducted across the university. Judiciously used figures serve to highlight the dangers posed by tropical windstorms. A QR code on the back leads readers to additional information about the university’s work in the area of environmental resilience.
The piece has been shared with peers at other universities, media who cover coastal weather, and stakeholders eager to better understand FIU’s impact as an R-1 institution. Response has been universally positive, with FIU researchers using it at conferences and elsewhere to tout their work and invite collaboration across disciplines and with other universities. Many people have commented on the beauty of the piece and complimented it as being easy to understand while remarkably comprehensive for such a small work."
