Maximizing Digital Engagement with the UAlbany Magazine Mini
From the Nominator
"The UAlbany Magazine Mini is a digital-only series published in the months between the print issues of UAlbany Magazine. Each mini takes an in-depth look at a featured UAlbany alumnus or related topic in a single webpage. Through this series, we have had the opportunity to explore topics and produce exclusive content not available in the printed issues, as well as enhance the presentation of those stories in ways that are only possible in a digital format. The video and animated elements of each mini are designed to keep the viewer engaged as they scroll through content that is typically longer than our average feature article (yet shorter than a full-length magazine issue). Past minis have featured prominent UAlbany alumni, like the civil rights and LGBTQ activist Harvey Milk, and the story of two brothers’ fight to cure brain cancer.
In the late fall of 2022, we published our latest and most highly viewed Magazine Mini, “Memories of Dippikill”—a feature on the 1,000-acre private wilderness retreat owned by the UAlbany Student Association and a favorite destination for many in the UAlbany community. An engaging and immersive experience, "Memories of Dippikill" has been highly praised by our alumni and friends who have on average spent 6+ minutes scrolling through the page, well above the typical 3-4 minute average for Magazine Minis and 1-2 minute average for other pages on the UAlbany Magazine website."
