One Day for STATE
From the Nominator
"We knew back in 2017 that we needed to do something to remain relevant with our younger donors as well as use this opportunity to explore some new ways to engage with our audience digitally. Cue One Day for STATE—our 24-giving day. We had set an initial goal of 500 donors. We still recall that pit in our collective stomach that morning when only a modest number of responses had trickled in. By midnight, the number of donors swelled to 1,196 and nearly $300,000. In 2022, we brought in over $2,400,960 from 5,882 donors that spanned over 15 countries and all 50 states. We've done the math and to hit that goal, we needed to bring in about 208 gifts an hour!
Year-to-year we have continued to see a growth in both donors and dollars:
2017: $298,558, 1,196 donors
2018: $574,445, 2,138 donors
2019: $1,348,477, 3,744 donors
2020: $1,617,648, 4,888 donors
2021: $1,940,896, 5,438 donors
2022: $2,400,960, 5,882 donors
This last year, 5,144 of our gifts were $100 or less, emphasizing our message that day that gifts of all size make a big difference.
What's even more impressive about our giving day isn't just the increase in participation, but that this channel brings in year-to-year 38% of our (new) first time donors (FTD), with about 30-40% of these same donors making an additional gift. For context, our phonathon program brings in about 2% of our FTD."
From the Judges
This is a great example of collaboration and planning. The social media toolkits were very thorough and gave step-by-step instructions for collaborators to have success. Great program pivot.
