Tabor Today Alumni Magazine
From the Nominator
"Tabor Academy has revamped its existing alumni magazine, Tabor Today, which has been in existence, in varying formats, for over 40 years. Prior to 2021, the magazine was more a newsletter than a magazine, featuring mostly updates on the current state of the school and little narrative content. The online component was an ISSUU flipbook posted on the Tabor website. The content was not engaging, and readers were not excited to receive the publication. Starting in the summer of 2021, to coincide with the Summer Olympics, Tabor debuted its first issue of a narrative storytelling magazine format, the Olympics Issue. The team introduced themes to the magazine, which combined articles on the history of the school, exciting elements of the school's current programming, and profiles of alumni, all related to the central concept. The magazine received positive feedback, but with it being the first issue in this new format, its impact hadn't been felt to the fullest extent.
Proud of our work, we powered forward with the next two issues—focused on food and construction and creation—both of which received numerous positive reviews from readers. A partnership between archives, Strategic Marketing & Communications (SMAC), and advancement, the magazine combines the past, present, and future of our nearly 150-year-old institution, featuring a beautifully designed print publication and a robust digital magazine microsite with bonus content, including additional images and video, and articles not found in the print publication. Readers have re-engaged with Tabor Today, commenting on social and sharing the publication with others."
From the Judges
Very creative. The team went above and beyond the expected angles to find a plethora of touchpoints that feel both authentic and entertaining. The cool spring cover draws the reader in, and the historical pieces by Eliott Grover in the spring issue were particularly noteworthy.
