University of Delaware Magazine: Statewide Impact
From the Nominator
"The University of Delaware is an international hub, with more than 250 partnerships around the globe and research collaborations happening everywhere, from the South Pole to outer space. But there’s no place like home.
At a time when so many institutions of higher education are touting their global reach, the team behind the University of Delaware Magazine wrote a 24-page love letter to their small (but mighty) state. The stories in this special issue—about under-the-radar efforts to battle food insecurity, support veterans, or safeguard the beloved horseshoe crab from extinction—have resonated with state legislators and, even more importantly, residents who feel part of the Blue Hen community. As evidence of this impact, the magazine team is still, months after hitting mailboxes, fielding requests for a poster-sized version of the cover, an illustrated map of Delaware highlighting all the state has to offer and the many points where UD touches lives.
From the front cover to the back, the issue celebrates the university’s mission to create a stronger, healthier, cleaner, greener, more vibrant, innovative, and educated state."
From the Judges
We really liked how this publication stayed focused on its theme throughout the entirety of the magazine. Because of this, it felt like a special edition. They had a clear objective and found innovative and creative ways to show the school's impact on the state. They used illustrations well and balanced consistent design with opportunities to break up the content.
