University of Guam 70th Anniversary Museum Exhibit
From the Nominator
"Major milestones are an ideal time to take a walk down memory lane, but for its 70th anniversary, the University of Guam took it a step further and brought memory lane to life. Seventy years of history became tangible in an interactive 3,000-square-foot museum exhibit in the island's capital. The exhibit ran from August 18 to October 15, 2022. It celebrated the university's broad accomplishments and engaged people's senses and emotions to more fully realize the impact of the university's work, inspiring continued excitement and support for the university's future in teaching, research, and service to the community.
The UOG MarCom team worked with a committee of 15 chaired by the chief marketing and communications officer. The exhibit was organized around the mission of UOG of Guam—Ina, Deskubre, Setbe: To Enlighten, To Discover, and To Serve. Each main section featured editorial content, interactive elements, and artifacts. Special experiential displays were also produced, including a throwback Swimmy Triton arcade cabinet, augmented reality exhibit featuring scientific research, a claw machine filled with logo merchandise, and digital jukebox showcasing fine arts programs.
The local newspaper published an op-ed from a former senator saying: "The exhibit is world-class. The content is remarkable. The display is spectacular. [...] It’s appealing, interactive, informative, positive, hopeful, inspiring." Attendance totaled nearly 2,500 including: 700+ high school students, 500+ special-event guests, and 1,100+ walk-ins. A fundraiser held at the exhibit raised $10,000 for the Endowment Foundation, and the claw machine had over 1,100 plays."
