From the Nominator
UMKC’s Vanguard Magazine is an annual research-centered publication that features the latest faculty news and research. This specific issue highlighted stories that included sustainable urban agriculture, removing chemicals from drinking water, technology enhancements for work zone safety and limiting glaucoma damage. This publication is available in both print and digital format, allowing for different user experiences, and is geared toward peer institutions, researchers, legislators, students, faculty and staff with 3,000 copies in distribution. The publication is more than just a publication—it is a jumping off point to share the content created in additional channels—from social media to media pitches to student recruitment and research engagement. The photos and content get repurposed in numerous ways that drive forward the amazing, high impact research in this academic unit.

Impressive use of color and font on the cover. Lighting, color and the tasteful presence of school colors throughout the magazine created a strong entry.
