"Yes, There’s a Coded Message on the Bookie’s Window"
From the Nominator
"Writer Addy Hatch sometimes checks the university’s subreddit for story ideas. She ran across a post claiming there is Morse code hidden in plain sight on the window of the university bookstore in the student union building. The thought intrigued her, so she began reporting the story, tracking down the student who had made the post—an architect who had overseen the building’s reconstruction years ago and an administrator in the facilities department.
As for impact, the next time Hatch was in the building a couple months later, she was walking by the window and overheard one student say to another, “Did you know that’s Morse code?”"
From the Judges
Playful ending was creative and gave the reader something unusual to consider. Story flowed well with an interesting and light topic to investigate and report on. Intriguing and not the usual story, which likely generated great interest with readers. What IS Morse Code? Something for the reader to Google, if they are uncertain. Clever and well done.
