BC Law Magazine
From the Nominator
BC Law Magazine’s purpose is perhaps unusual for a law school: While it understandably reflects community members whose heads are focused on academic and legal excellence, its message comes from the hearts of those who teach, study, and graduate from here. The people who choose Boston College Law School do so because they are passionate about doing good in the world and promoting social justice. No surprise, then, that the backgrounds they come from and the causes and careers they pursue make for compelling—often epic—stories. That’s why alum Frank Murray, an assistant U.S. attorney in Florida, threw his federal weight against a con man who defrauded hundreds of undocumented immigrants—which cost many of them a path to citizenship and likely a few of them their lives. It’s why Professor Thomas Mitchell, a MacArthur “Genius,” came to the law school; it enabled him to launch a program to continue his groundbreaking work on the generational impact of Black land loss. It’s also why Jihyun Cathie Tak became an ethics trainer at an international corporation. And those are but three examples from the winter 2023 and summer 2023 issues submitted. The impact? This reader’s comment says it all: “I read [the winter 2023 issue] from cover to cover. What these people are doing is exceptional, and I find it inspiring as I look towards the future.” BC Law Magazine is valued for drawing prospective students, attracting top faculty, and keeping alumni engaged.
