Bright Future: A Celebration in Lights
From the Nominator
To wrap up Texas Christian University’s Sesquicentennial celebration, we created a memorable interactive experience on campus that not only honored our current achievements but also looked forward to the next 150 years. Our goal was to showcase how students, faculty, and staff are creating a “bright future” by contributing to the greater good. We achieved our goal with a big idea: transforming campus with thousands of LED lights in TCU’s signature purple hue, a first-of-its-kind artistic installation. The lights bathed iconic buildings, trees, and common areas in purple, creating a dynamic display that spanned acres. Large, glowing orbs stationed in highly trafficked campus settings added to the ambiance as environmental art pieces. We branded the University Union with logos and used its signature buff brick as a backdrop for playing videos of TCU leadership discussing the university’s future. We added two-story-tall banners to the library’s columned façade, transforming it into a canvas for rotating projections highlighting TCU’s research, achievements, and academic excellence. This weeklong installation captivated not only the campus community but also alumni and Fort Worth residents, who marveled at the purple spectacle. By illuminating TCU’s bright future, we concluded the Sesquicentennial celebration with an unforgettable event that united past, present, and future stakeholders in celebration.
From the Judges
This bold and impactful event effectively celebrates the "Bright Future" concept with a fun and engaging showcase, drawing people to campus. The project skillfully balanced the simple use of colour with the more complex projection mapping onto facades and white banners. The integration of student, faculty, and staff images adds a personal touch and subtly incorporates more colors.
