From the Nominator
Staff writer Scott Huler looked into the history of Duke University's famed Blue Devil mascot. And what a history it is! This piece pulls back the curtains on the folks who have taken on this important role at Duke. Huler interviewed those who have worn the Blue Devil suit, and each had a story about portraying the mascot. Huler also culled our archives for historical tidbits that are spirited and humorous. This was a big hit with our alums.
From the Judges
This article provides delightful tidbits of history. The lede is great, especially the kicker of the crowd sympathizing with the Blue Devil and not the Tar Heel. One judge found the page design to be distracting with so many long pull quotes (although this wasn't the fault of the writer).
