Digital Campus Map
From the Nominator
The University of the Pacific needed a self-service way to provide directions to various buildings and locations on campus so that assistance from a staff member wasn't needed. In a collaboration between Strategic Communications and Pacific Technology (IT), a digital campus map was produced and deployed on 82-inch touchscreen TVs in five high-traffic locations on campus. Visitors can choose any two locations on campus, either by building name (e.g., “library”) or by the office/department/service in the building (e.g., “Career Services”), and the map draws an on-screen route from the starting to ending location. Visitors can also able to highlight important sections of the map, such as parking locations, at the push of a button. In addition, the map generates a scannable QR code on screen, allowing visitors to transfer the route displayed on the TV screen to Google Maps on their phones for self-navigation. The map is even pre-programmed with the university’s standard campus tour route. The maps are used approximately between 200 and 250 times a month, making our campus much friendlier, engaging, and easy to get around.
