One Ball State Day: The Spirit of Beneficence
From the Nominator
One Ball State Day's success can be attributed to advanced planning, a diverse array of engaging events planned largely by our Foundation's student philanthropy group, and the unwavering support of the entire Ball State community. The crowning achievement of One Ball State Day wasn't raising $1.2 million in one day--it was the engagement of the campus, the community, and our alumni. We are a university committed to the culture of philanthropy. Our student group, the Philanthropy Education Council, is tasked with devising ways to loop their peers into what private giving means to Ball State. We have created an energetic approach to philanthropy education, one that involves the entire Ball State community and inspires giving. We want to educate students about those before them who paved the way and how they can provide a legacy for the students following in their footsteps. Our university was founded by the Ball family on the spirit of beneficence, and the beloved campus statue of Beneficence (affectionately known as Benny) is a reminder to us all. Philanthropy is who we are.
From the Judges
The One Ball State Day features an outstandingly organized student Philanthropy Education Council. Their creative use of budget, delivery of energetic events, and student education on campus philanthropy paid off in a great show of student donors on their giving day. A great example of how to educate and engage students in giving on campus via their peers.
