To show a day in the life of a pitmaster and why barbecue is a uniquely demanding and exhausting medium, I tried to write a tightly focused, atmospheric, first-person profile that allowed our protagonist, Buz Grossberg, room to opine, philosophize and lament through one long scene. Grossberg is an alumnus of Virginia Commonwealth University, and this article appeared in VCU Magazine.
