Reimagining Research: Becoming the Relationship Insights Team at OSUF
From the Nominator
Fundraising research is quickly evolving due to new technologies, best practices, and advancements in data analytics. The role of fundraising researcher is shifting from the traditional collection and aggregation of information (e.g., reactive profiles) toward the creation of proactive relationship management analytics and data-informed insights. To keep ahead of these trends, the Oregon State University Foundation (OSUF), in the fall of 2020, embarked on a three-year initiative to redefine its prospect research approach. The newly branded Relationship Insights team emerged from this transformation, representing a cultural shift in OSUF's approach to relationship management and research. At its core, Relationship Insights signifies the transformation of research into a dynamic, data-driven program; it leverages our research analysts' ability to access a large amount of data from both internal and external sources. This transformation included learning new analytical tools and approaches; streamlining and automating many routine research tasks; and building strong partnerships with each development officer, offering them personalized, data-informed recommendations and strategies. After three years, by providing valuable insights into fundraising at every level of the organization, the Relationship Insights team has positioned itself as an integral fundraising partner.
