Renee Roden: iAge of Anxiety
From the Nominator
Young people are struggling with mental health. At Notre Dame, proliferating resources serve students dealing with depression, anxiety, and stress as they navigate a hypercompetitive academic environment and the challenges of young adulthood in an increasingly individualistic and disconnected culture. In their formative years, the pandemic exacerbated their detachment from one another and hindered their educational progress. Writer Renee Roden explores all this through the expertise of scholars, counselors, clergy and, importantly, the first-hand experience of students themselves. It’s distressing to read, but it offers insight into the multifaceted forces at work in young people’s lives. In addition, the article illuminates what’s being done to give students the holistic support they need to flourish.
