Terrier Creator Program: Empowering Students to Showcase Boston University
From the Nominator
Students are at the heart of what we do. They are ambitious, hardworking, inspiring and constantly thinking of new and innovative ways to express themselves. That’s why in January 2023, Boston University Public Relations | Social Media team launched the Terrier Creator Program, an initiative that puts social media content creation in the hands of BU’s most creative students. As social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok continue to double down on short-form videos, our team needed a way to create quality short-form content showcasing the BU experience, not solely relying on trending templates or content from our small team. This was our driving force in creating the program. Students sign up by filling out an application form on our website and are paid an agreed-upon amount per video they create. Since launching the program, our Terrier Creators have produced 40 videos for our Instagram and TikTok channels, earning 1.02 million video views, 82,640 engagements, 5,126 shares, and a reach (the number of unique users--followers and non-followers--who saw the page post) of 1.67 million. In our first year, we received 109 applications to the program.
From the Judges
We appreciated this innovative idea. Leveraging social media influencing by empowering students to showcase their university experience is a great move. By outsourcing to students, they've boosted online presence and engagement. This concept is a great way to get students more involved with the university, and it's an interesting and unique way to highlight all that BU has to offer.
