In 2023, the the MCV Foundation and the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing took the opportunity to thank the school's two largest donors--one a foundation that has been giving for decades and now gives more than $800,000 annually and the other a family who has given tens of millions over the last several years. The MCV Foundation acts as a free, creative resource for fundraising, stewardship, and development projects on the MCV Campus at VCU Health, and that includes the School of Nursing. The foundation and the school already worked together to accept and distribute the scholarship funds associated with these donors, but partnered in this case to follow up with materials that directly thanked the donors and introduced them to students who benefit from their generosity. "Words of Gratitude" books featuring quotes and photos were used in concert with edited videos and recorded interviews to achieve stewardship and messaging goals.
