The University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville Advancement Stewardship and Communications staff led an effort to maximize the impact of the standard annual report to better steward UT’s top-level donors. Through a tiered approach, staff created custom pieces to accompany reports for UT’s Torchbearer Society (more than 70 donors with $1M+ in lifetime giving). This included extremely customized deep dives that showed the impact that the biggest donors have made with their transformative investments (about 20-25 donors identified by leadership). UT’s top-tier donors had not previously received any cohesive, campus-wide overviews of their giving and its impact before this endeavor began. It has resulted in greater affinity for UT, better engagement, and continued financial support from this group.
