#TuftsGivingTuesday Is a Jumbo Success!
From the Nominator
#TuftsGivingTuesday turned 11 in 2023. It is a proud university tradition that uses a comprehensive marketing campaign, a huge variety of giving challenges, and many volunteers to increase donor participation in annual giving--and create fun at the same time. #TuftsGivingTuesday celebrates the impact the university, its faculty, and students has on society, and the campaign also recognizes Tufts as a place where innovative and inclusive learning, research, and teaching occur hand-in-hand. While the campaign is well-established, reengaging the community, especially students and young alumni, after a pandemic lull was a goal. And circumstances in the world forced a pivot; following the launch of the Israel-Hamas war, we faced a fraught campus climate among students and administration and a vocal cohort of concerned alumni and parents. There was also uncertainty about reactions to a fundraising initiative during the throes of global unrest that felt very close to home for many. After some small adjustments, we believed the best path forward was to continue to celebrate the importance of Tufts and our community, with response plans in place for upset constituents. This nuanced approach worked: The day provided a spirited and pride-filled experience across our campuses and around the world. The result was a new donor record (9,030), 76 matches and challenges, and $4,008,426 raised. Further, it boosted morale among alumni and university leadership, who saw in real time that even amid frustration, the belief in Tufts and its mission remains strong.
From the Judges
A very successful giving day that we felt was well designed and well executed. It was very clearly well thought out, and we were impressed by the detailed documentation and planning. This would be an excellent template for other institutions.
