UC San Diego Community Stations Case for Support
From the Nominator
At University of California, San Diego, we believe that what we don’t know today will forever change our tomorrows. Empowered by generosity and fueled by curiosity, we are unafraid to chase the unknown—to ask the questions no one has asked before and to push the boundaries of possibility. The UC San Diego Community Stations are an example of how we push boundaries. The community stations are four public spaces located in vulnerable neighborhoods across the San Diego-Tijuana border region. Designed to dissolve the national and institutional boundaries that stifle exchange, the stations unite community leaders, university researchers, and local youth to enhance capacity for self-determined change. This unique university-community partnership encourages the sharing of knowledge and resources and collaborations on education, research, and cultural activity. The stations rely on foundation and philanthropic support, and our case for support for these community stations is as unique as the stations themselves; we relied on a blend of vibrant imagery from each location, maps, community spotlights, and bold text to paint a picture of how cross-border partnerships—and philanthropic support—can transform lives.
