UCSF Magazine website
From the Nominator
UCSF Magazine is the flagship publication of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). We tell stories about how UCSF scientists, clinicians, students, and alumni are transforming human health – stories that are meant to inform and inspire. Our website allows our audience to find, read, and share our content online. It also allows us to engage readers more deeply with multimedia, expand our reach, publish timely stories quickly, meet AA accessibility standards, and enhance the magazine's brand. Our visitors enjoy responsive design, user-tested navigation, additional reading recommendations, story collections, and a complete online archive (with PDFs available for download). Finally, the website enables us to market the magazine in creative ways via emails and social media. We’re excited to have such a robust storytelling platform to engage our audiences and one on par with our award-winning print magazine. We’ve been pleased with the website's success. In 2023, we had almost 236,000 visits and more than 300,000 page views, with about 56% coming from direct traffic and almost 26% from search engines. Almost 44% of our visitors are viewing on mobiles. In addition, some of our older stories have garnered thousands of new views. This tells us we are reaching both our targeted audience and new readers, our search engine optimization is working, we’re providing an excellent mobile experience, and we’re extending the life of our stories.
