UMass Lowell Magazine
From the Nominator
The UMass Lowell Magazine explores topics that matter, while highlighting the expertise and success of the university's faculty, alumni, and students. The extreme-weather theme of the magazine's fall 2023 edition proved timely, as last year's weather events, ranging from hurricanes to droughts, cost the United States billions of dollars in damage and resulted in hundreds of deaths. UMass Lowell's Office of Brand, Communications and Creative Strategy posed the question "What's Up With the Weather?" and the research faculty delivered answers. Through innovative storytelling and engaging designs, the UMass Lowell Magazine explored the science behind what is driving extreme weather and highlighted alumni who work across multiple fields to predict it, protect against it, and build resilience from it. The spring 2023 edition, "City Lights," highlighted how integral the city of Lowell, Mass., is to UMass Lowell. From collaborative research to alumni working in the city, the magazine shows the reader that there is no UMass Lowell without Lowell. Roughly 190,000 copies of the two editions are in circulation, with electronic versions available on the UMass Lowell website.
