Armin Afsahi
An accomplished and respected advancement leader with nearly 30 years of experience, Armin Afsahi began serving as Vice President for Advancement at The University of Chicago in April 2023. In this role, he leads the University’s strategy, direction, and organization for development, alumni relations, and campaign planning. He works closely with UChicago’s president, provost, deans, officers, and board of trustees to advance the University’s mission through the intellectual, social, professional, and philanthropic engagement of the University community.
Afsahi brings a wide range of expertise in institutional advancement, strategic management, business development, leadership, and operations. Prior to joining UChicago, he held senior roles in advancement at multiple universities including the University of Denver, UC San Diego, Georgetown University, and Harvard University, respectively. He is a member of the board of directors for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), serving on the Leadership and Governance and Finance and Investment commitees. He is a recipient of of the CASE Crystal Apple Award for Teaching Excellence.
Afsahi holds a BA in communications from UC San Diego and an MBA from the University of San Diego.

Annamarie Bezzerides
As Chief Development Officer at Georgetown University, Annamarie leads a team of professionals who are dedicated to advancing the university's mission and vision through strategic fundraising efforts. She has over 25 years of experience in corporate and individual major gift fundraising, marketing, volunteer management, and business development, with a track record of success in major and principal gift closure.
In addition, Annamarie has extensive capital campaign experience, participating in feasibility studies, quiet phase planning, priority setting, and volunteer leadership recruitment. She has also built and led successful development units from scratch, using advanced computing and information systems to improve collaboration and efficiency, and specializes in using technology in fundraising and long-term relationship building.

Katharine "Kate" Buchanan
Kate Buchanan A.B ’92, J.D., serves as Senior Advisor, Philanthropy & Campus Collaboration. In this dual role, she advises the Vice President for Alumni Engagement & Development on strengthening the fundraising, strategy, and operations partnerships with schools and units across campus, while also supporting the Law School’s principal gifts work and campaign strategy.
Kate served as the Associate Dean for Alumni and Development at the Law School from 2016 through 2023, after roles as Assistant Dean and Director of Development during her tenure at the Law School. Before joining the Law School in 2004, Kate practiced estate planning and tax exempt organizations law, and worked for several years in annual, major and planned gift fundraising for the University of Colorado at Boulder and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. She is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Virginia School of Law.

Jack H. Knott
Jack H. Knott serves as the Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University.
Before joining NYU, he served as the Dean of the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California, where he held the C. Erwin and Ione L. Piper Chair in Public Policy and Management. Prior to USC, Dean Knott served as Professor and Director of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois and of the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research at Michigan State University. He founded the MSU Survey Research Center and helped establish the Michigan Political Leadership Program. Dean Knott was also a visiting faculty member at Warrick University in the United Kingdom and a Fellow at the International Institute of Management in Berlin, Germany.
Dean Knott has published three books, numerous peer-reviewed, journal articles, and several policy reports. His areas of expertise include political institutions and public policy, political economy, and public management. He has served as the principal investigator on numerous research grants and has consulted with foundations and nonprofit organizations on program evaluation and public policy, including the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the California Endowment. He currently serves on the editorial boards of two journals in comparative public management and policy.
Among his awards, he is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and is a past President of the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). In addition, he has served as a member of the Educational Advisory Panel, U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), Washington D.C., a member of the Endowment Board of the American Society for Public Administration, and a member of the Board of Price Philanthropies foundation.
Dean Knott received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, his M.A. from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at The Johns Hopkins University, and his undergraduate degree from Calvin University.

Sarah West
Sarah West is a nationally recognized senior institutional and external relations advancement professional with 40 years of experience in research-intensive higher education and biomedical research and healthcare environments.
As principal of Sarah West & Associates, Sarah has provided philanthropic management consulting services and counsel to a select number of higher education, healthcare and entrepreneurial clients since 2000, largely in tandem with a concurrent career as an executive with five public and private research universities. Since 2018, Sarah has focused full-time on her consulting practice.
From 2008 – 2018, Sarah served as Associate Vice President of Strategic Planning and the Campaign at Duke University, where she was responsible for the strategic development, oversight and management of Duke’s successful $3.85 billion-dollar campaign, Duke Forward, from inception to close. She was the primary architect of this campaign, working with academic leadership, colleagues, and volunteers across all schools and areas at Duke to drive both the conceptual design and successful execution of the campaign. As one of three members of the Vice President for Alumni Relations and Development’s leadership team, she concurrently played a key role in the strategic direction of the overall advancement program, developing and executing initiatives to increase the fund-raising capacity of the organization.
Prior to her tenure at Duke, Sarah served in the advancement programs at the University of Virginia, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the Claremont Colleges, the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) and Georgetown University. At UC San Diego, she was the associate vice chancellor for University Development with oversight of the University’s successful $1 billion campaign and with management responsibilities for 150 staff members. At Georgetown University, she acted as associate vice president for development, overseeing the initial strategic plan and implementation of a $1.5 billion+ campaign. She subsequently was engaged for two years as counsel to the vice president and associate vice president for advancement at Georgetown. Ms. West also has served in leadership roles in two online learning companies.
In 2021, Sarah was appointed to North Carolina’s State Board of Community Colleges.
Sarah holds an MBA degree from the Anderson School at UCLA and a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
