Home Away From Home: A New Way to Enhance Alumni Engagement Across Generations
Session Description: As enrollment targets increase, more students than ever are struggling to find housing. This added burden diminishes student success and quality of life. Meanwhile, alumni are looking for meaningful ways to give back that go beyond financial gifts. What if we could meet campus need while fostering synergistic engagement between students and alumni — through housing? This is the aim of the Home Away From Home pilot program at the University of Utah. Our program matches alumni with a student they host in their home, building meaningful connections and community.

The goal? To broaden the definition of mental health and well-being on campus and to reduce stigma by consistently telling meaningful stories about well-being to our various audiences, regularly highlighting resources, and sharing relevant research and expertise. And to promote culture change via communications projects centered on aspects of success, failure and healthy behaviors.

A “Bridge” to Salesforce's Complex Reporting
Session Description: Once upon a time, there was a kingdom (our organization) by the sea. One day, the king and his men (the leadership team) found an island (SalesForce CRM) full of books (the data)! But the island and the kingdom were separated by the deep sea (limitations for reporting in Salesforce). The king ordered 4 warriors (the data team) to get some wisdom from the island books......Wonder what they encountered on the journey? Or, despairing about coding to write reports, come to this session and we can show you how we handled Salesforce complex reporting (even without a data warehouse)!

Structuring Your Fundraising Team for Success: Empowering Leaders at Every Level
Session Description: In advancement, we traditionally distinguish between “back-of-the-house” support and the “front lines.” On Berkeley’s Principal Gifts & Strategic Initiatives team, we’ve intentionally built a structure where everyone contributes at all stages of the development cycle. We distribute work so that each staffer engages in thought partnership with senior fundraisers. In this session, we'll give concrete examples of collaborative partnerships, shared tools and lessons learned. Whether you manage a team of fundraisers or work behind the scenes, you will gain insights on how empowering the “back-of-the-house” team as true thought partners increases job satisfaction and creates a highly productive team culture.

Metrics And Mentorship For Fundraiser Success
Session Description: We will share how a system of collaboration between Caltech’s Prospect Management and Research and Regional Major Gifts Teams has implemented analytics and strategy to measure output, mentor for success, and indicate promotion. This system helps avoid the pitfalls of unconscious bias to move away from anecdotal perception to measurable results. Clearly defined metrics and accessible reports are the basis for the collaboration enabling researchers to effectively support fundraisers’ progress toward goals, and managers to effectively mentor fundraisers. It maintains equity among peers by quantitatively reflecting achievements, highlighting areas of improvement, and indicating where promotion (or separation) is needed.
Speakers: Nicole Weaver-Goller, Senior Director of Development, California Institute of Technology, Lisa Farella, Director of Prospect Management and Research, California Institute of Technology

At each stop along the Utah Across Utah: Six Commitments Summer Tour, President Randall and his team met with business and community leaders, local officials, leaders of other state colleges and universities, and alumni to cultivate connections and spur collaboration.

Onboarding for Retention and Culture: A Case Study
Session Description: To diversify our talent pool in university fundraising, we know we have to appeal to people with transferrable skills. Fortuitously, smaller hiring pools are encouraging just that. New hires require a different kind of training. Even when university fundraisers are hired, in the new hybrid environment, it can be a challenge to build cultures of trust, belonging, and high production. Utah State partnered with Generous Change to create a new onboarding program with step-by-step how-to's for "the Utah State Way," and culture and belonging were built intentionally from the beginning. Hear results and learn how to build your own.
Speakers: Nancy Jackson, Founding Partner, Generous Change, Matthew White, Vice President Advancement/President of the USU Foundation, Utah State University
