Creating Alumni Associations for traditionally marginalized communities
A case study on the creation of a Black Alumni Association at Mount Saint Mary’s University Los Angeles. Learn the steps taken to engage the campus partners and alumni community to create an official organization dedicated to strengthening the Black community, supporting members of the Black Diaspora, building a professional network and serving as an important voice for the community. Attendees will learn ways to understand your institutions history, ways to gather input from alumni, recruit board members and engage campus partners with the goal of creating institutionalized support for students and alumni.

This session will help you develop a year-round parent engagement and communication strategy that builds trust in the institution, creates meaningful volunteer experiences, and generates support for key initiatives. Learn how to bring parents into the conversation and pipeline early on and engage with them throughout their “time” on campus. Growing Alumni Volunteerism Near and Far Using Online Engagement Systems
Session Description: At San Francisco State University, we've seen exponential growth over the past years in the number of alumni and friends who volunteered with the Alumni Association, from 25 in 2015 to 150 in 2022. We'll share our strategic growth practices that produced higher engagement over the years despite the small but mighty size of our team of 6 full-time professionals tasked with outreach to reach out to nearly 300,000 contactable alumni.

Christ is a seasoned professor and administrator who is also well known as an advocate for quality, accessible public higher education. In this conversation, Chancellor Christ will reflect on her leadership as chief executive of multiple institutions, lessons learned across a 30+ year career, and the priority placed and passions drawn from her work in advancement.
