The culture within the European education sector has been slowly built over thousands of years. It can feel heavy, engrained, and immovable. We might face it with an air of resignation and hear ourselves saying “that’s just how it is, we have to work with the culture instead of trying to change it.”

But is that really how it has to be?

This is a session about reframing resignation into resolution, moving from “we can’t” to “what can we”, and from waiting to leading.

It starts with every single one of us, irrespective of whether our job title indicates that we’re “leaders” or not.

In this session we’ll explore:

• How to see and say what you see in your organisation’s culture
• How to have it move a different way no matter what your starting point
• Three areas that are crucially important to advancement roles, and how to ignite a new way of thinking about using them to shift cultures.

We’ll look at:

• Creating a culture of collaboration, not more collaborative projects
• Creating a culture of leadership, not more management
• Creating a culture of courage, not more decisions based on fear.

By looking at these three areas for culture change, you’ll leave this session equipped with techniques and modes of thinking that will help you to turn the tanker in the direction that your institution really needs it to move in irrespective of what those changes might be.

We live in a fast-changing world. As a leader, navigating your team and organisation through that can feel exhausting, requiring you to constantly adjust and update strategies to remain relevant and value-adding.

So it’s only human to try and create stability where we can, in our leadership. To be the steady hand guiding the ship. To resist unnecessary change. To stick with the familiar rather than embrace the unknown.

But it’s a mistaken goal. Because the lines between stability, complacency, and even stagnation can be very fine.

To be a successful leader over the long-term means embracing reinvention as core to you and your leadership. Shifting your perspective to expect and welcome change creates teams and organisations that are both agile and resilient. Being proactive in reinventing yourself and your leadership cultivates talent, reduces dependency on a single person, and invites fresh ideas and perspectives. Counterintuitively, it is actually what creates stability.

In this session, we will explore:

• What is reinvention in the context of leadership
• The power of embracing reinvention, and the cost if you don’t
• What reinvention means on a practical level, including how and when to take it on
• Why reinvention is key to long-term success

Through a reflective and interactive session, you will have the chance to explore your own relationship to change and understand what it will take for you to empower it.
