Meet Your Chair
Michael Reza
Michael Reza is an established leader that believes higher education can transform the lives of individuals, communities, and society. This belief drives his passion for the work that we do as Advancement professionals. Michael currently serves as the Associate Vice President, Portland Development & Alumni Engagement at the University of Oregon. He leads the Portland, OR regional advancement strategy and serves on the UO Advancement senior leadership team. Portland is home to the largest concentration of UO donors and alumni, as well as a regional UO Portland campus. He works closely with academic leadership, maintains a portfolio of donor prospects, and takes a prominent role in representing the university in the Portland community.
Michael has more than 19 years of experience in higher education advancement at large public and small private institutions. Prior to the UO, he served as Vice President for Advancement at George Fox University where he led a team that included development, alumni relations and grants. While there, GFU doubled their fundraising in three years and launched a campaign. Michael has experience in advancement from his time in progressive roles at the University of Arizona, UC Irvine and Oregon State University. He is an active volunteer with CASE and completed his term as Chair of CASE District VIII in June 2022.

Betheny Reid
Ms. Reid has a 25-year+ history as a senior executive higher education advancement professional and has experience in marketing/communication, public affairs, and non-profit management. She has served as Senior Associate Vice President of Advancement & Campaign Director for the University of North Texas; Associate Vice Chancellor/Development & Foundation President, Dallas College; President of the West End Historic District Association, the largest historic and entertainment district in the southwest US; the first female chief of staff for the presiding elected officer of Dallas County; and Marketing Director for a Fortune 1000 international corporation.
An active member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Ms. Reid has served in many roles, including:
- Board of Directors, where she and Seminole State Community College President, Ann McGee, led the initiative to establish the CASE Center for Community College Advancement.
- Chair of the International Committee for the Board, establishing CASE Latin America operations.
- Inaugural chair of the Center for Community College Advancement Council.
- Member of the Marketing Commission.
- Member of the CASE Carnegie Africa Initiative.
- Current member of the Industry Advisory Council.
- In 2012, Ms. Reid was named as the Commonwealth CASE Institutionally Related Foundation Executive of the Year while serving as DCCCD Foundation President.
- Ms. Reid has an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a graduate degree from Southern Methodist University.
- Betheny has been named CASE Laureate.
Maher Salah
Since October 2023, Maher Salah has served as the Vice President for Advancement and Executive Director of the Eastern Michigan University (EMU) Foundation. In this role he oversees all of EMU’s fundraising efforts, alumni engagement, and the compliance work related to the EMU Foundation.
Prior to coming to Eastern, Maher served in progressively expanding positions in his 19 years at the University of Michigan (U-M). As the Office of University Development’s Senior Executive Director of Development for University Initiatives and Campaign Strategy for seven years, he played an important role leading fundraising efforts for priority University Initiatives. He also spearheaded planning and aspirational bold ideas for the current U-M campaign. Prior to that, Maher served as Director of Development at Michigan Medicine in the Cancer Programs and Rogel Cancer Center, and in the Law School as a Regional Director of Development and Leadership Annual Giving Officer. He began his career in the U-M Athletic Department overseeing the Student-Athlete Development Program and Academic Advising for Michigan Men’s Basketball. Maher earned his B.A. from the School of Kinesiology, as well as a M. A. in Sport Management & Communications, both at the University of Michigan.
