Get the skills you need

CASE understands advancement shops at higher education institutions. That’s why we’ve tailored the CASE Management Institute to address the needs of new and existing managers.

The CASE Management Institute is a comprehensive four-phase training that takes place over six months. Experienced faculty will tackle topics including staff retention, team management, and handling increased responsibilities.

Participants will:

Receive a personality assessment review using the Clifton Strengths Finder.

Come to Chicago in October to participate in training sessions that focus on management theory and practice.

Collaborate regularly with assigned cohorts through an online community in the following months.

Reconvene in Washington, D.C., May 14-15, 2020, to review approaches gleaned over the past six months so they can move ahead with their new management skills.

Who Should Attend

Advancement professionals from any discipline who are new managers or have had new management responsibilities added to their current roles. Experienced managers from any advancement discipline who want to revisit the basics and sharpen their skills.

Recognizing and Applying Emotional Intelligence as a Manager

Emotional Intelligence is important both in your personal and professional life.  It means that you have a sound understanding of who you are as a person and how you relate to the world.  When you are self-aware, you know your strengths and weaknesses and how to manage them in the workplace.   Through small group exercises attendees will discuss these issues and how they can implement self-awareness and emotional intelligence to become better managers.

10:30-11:45
Breakout Session #1 – Difficult Conversations

“It’s not what you say, it’s what people hear.” One of the most important responsibilities as manager is to encourage, model and manage crucial conversations.  Using case studies, we will explore sources of conflict and practice accessing emotional intelligence competencies to handle tough conversations. Bring your real-life situations!

First impressions matter to establish credibility. Knowing your current team, what’s the perfect “start” you wish you had? During this session we’ll discuss the importance of chemistry—and performance. Should metrics be implemented or revised with your team; and if so, are they even related to desired outcomes? Most importantly, how do you figure out who to keep, who to move and how to make it all happen?

2:15 – 2:45
Refreshment Break / Networking

Breakout Session # 3: Roles of Highly- Effective Managers

As with fashion decisions, the demanding role of modern managers needs people who are both creative and willing to adapt to changing settings. What is often not discussed is how, on any given hour, you will be called adapt and adjust to the demands of your jobs and your roles as manager. Let’s work together to identify those roles and share critical elements to making those a success for you.
