There’s a ton of valuable information in the Case Reporting Standards & Management Guidelines. How much of it pertains to our shops? In this session, we’ll strip down to the nuts and bolts of the CASE blue book. Let’s talk about fundamentals, best practices, donor credit, and gift instruments. Bring the questions that bedevil you at your institution!

• Gifts Track: A Donor Wants to Give us What?  Accepting, or Not, the Weird or Bizarre.
  Increasingly donors are attempting to donate unique, and not always desired, forms of non-cash gifts.  This session will focus on the establishment of protocol and policy to facilitate acceptance - or rejection - of these gifts.  We'll look at gifts of securities, as well as the IRS concern regarding related versus unrelated gifts of property.  We'll conclude with a lightning round covering a dozen or so other forms of non-standard gifts - including Bitcoins!    
•  Records Track: Data Governance & Compliance
  As the stewards of highly sensitive information we are obligated to follow many complex standards for privacy, data access and receipting. This session will discuss some of the most basic requirements of PCI/PII, GDPR, FERPA, and even Canadian tax receipts. If you work with constituent data and these requirements are not familiar to you, then this session is a must.

• Gifts Track: Matching Gift Administration - Advancement Services Staff Become Fundraisers
  Matching gifts are often referred to as “free money,” but, administratively speaking, nothing could be farther from the truth. For the money raised, matching gifts can be the most labor-intensive form of fundraising, but with proper procedures, this need not be the case. We will review the concept and history of matching gifts, best practices for matching gift administration, and what your institution can do to make sure that your matching gift initiative is a vital part of your fundraising program. Bottom line: Advancement Services staff administering matching gift have a direct impact on the bottom line.
• Records Management Track: How to Deal with the Dreaded Dupe
  Duplicate records (dupes) leads to confusion, other data entry errors and a lack of confidence in database analytics. Dealing with dupes is a process that requires time, energy and consistency. We will explore three variations of duplicates. Duplicate individual records, corporations with multiple locations and duplicated data points in both. Please join this session to discuss the challenges and strategies to combat these complex duplicate data issues.

• Gifts Track: Online Giving 2019 - A CASE Odyssey
  The volume of online giving continues to grow year over year and our industry must be prepared to grow alongside it. This session will primarily focus on three areas: understanding the increasing importance of online giving as it relates to donor freedom, exploring the ways that automation and user engagement can help the process evolve, and tackling the technical, operational, and monetary barriers that we will undoubtedly face in the future. Let’s come together to discuss the challenges and opportunities that await us as educational fundraising crosses into the digital frontier. 
•  Records Track: Diversity and Inclusion in Data Management
  Respectful and accurate data management is critical to building strong relationships with our constituents. As widespread cultural awareness of diverse identities increases, sometimes our biographical data management practices lag behind. Learn how to improve your data processes to ensure they are respectful and inclusive of all people, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, racial/ethnic background, and nationality. Examine a case study: How UC Davis incorporated the need for diversification and inclusion into their donor and alumni database, which was not built for this type of dynamic change. Learn the creative ideas and strategies used to include international data and new gender identities into a very old-fashioned data table structure, to meet the new and ongoing needs of the evolving university population.

•  Gifts Track: Giving Tax Advice When You Can't Give Tax Advice: Making Your Donors AND Your Auditors Happy (and Other Impossibilities)
  In today's ever evolving tax landscape it is important to understand how to properly answer questions regarding tax implications of gift acceptance and gift processing standards. We will discuss how to handle tax questions while maintaining ethical and common sense practices that ensure you are following all of the rules from the finance and IRS perspectives.
• Records Track: Keep It Clean: Take an Active Approach to Data Hygiene
  Dirty, outdated, or missing data keeping you awake at night? There's a lot you can do. Learn how to set, prioritize, and achieve data hygiene goals. We'll talk about solutions like data entry standards and documentation, user permissions, audits, and appends (data purchases). Find out how to use your data hygiene metrics to promote your advancement services team within your advancement team.

• Large Organizations: Eliminating Errors - How OSU is Striving for Perfection Using Quality Control
  This presentation will describe how The Ohio State University created a robust Quality Control program for our Gift and Biographic Records department. Our QC program consists of determining a statistically-backed accuracy rate for the gifts processed, documentation for streamlining processes, review of biographic update requests, receipt review, and several queries in our database to check the accuracy of the information entered. We evolved the way we determine the accuracy rate for gift processing. This new process called the CASI model was developed by Tracy Owens, CQE (Certified Master Black Belt, he has been training and teaching the Lean Enterprise and Six Sigma since 1999). This significantly decreased the number of gifts we would need to check while still maintaining a reliable accuracy rate.
• Small Shops: General Elective Track: Small (But Mighty) Shops Workshop
  Discuss the most exciting solutions you've learned here at the conference...which you are pretty sure will never work in your shop because of your size. We will use our collective brainpower to solve problems and share ideas that will work in small shops. Bring questions, current challenges, and creative solutions that have worked for you.

Shall We Dance? How to Build Bridges with Your Advancement Partners
Building relationships across Advancement sub-units and finance departments is extremely important within the nonprofit landscape. We will share experiences about successfully working with various university departments and explore common challenges to expect as we learn us understand how to "dance" with varying partners who have different goals and objectives.
