Diana Chen
Diana Chen is a self-made businesswoman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. She is the founder & CEO of Pioneer Group Holdings, Chair of Yintai Securities Co., Ltd, and Chair of Yintai US Investments (with offices in Silicon Valley and Los Angeles). Yintai’s mission is to invest in and help grow companies that have substantial potential to improve life and benefit society.
Diana is also Chair of the Centrum Charitas Foundation, a non-profit charitable organisation committed to youth development in Hong Kong through charitable activities that unite budding entrepreneurs enthusiastic about Hong Kong's future. She has been awarded the JP (Justice of the Peace) and BBS (Bronze Bauhinia Star) by the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and she has been invited to join various Hong Kong government committees for her over twenty years contributions to the society.
Ed Hu
For over 30 years, Ed Hu has worked in the secondary and higher education arena. Ed currently serves as the Head of External Relations at Harvard-Westlake School, an independent grades 7-12 day school in Los Angeles, overseeing admissions, advancement, alumni relations, and communications. During his tenure as Chief Advancement Officer (from 2002 to 2014), he successfully oversaw the completion of a $175 million capital campaign in 2010 (with a total of $187 million raised).
Ed joined Harvard-Westlake School in 1994 and served as Associate Director of College Counseling and Dean of Juniors and Seniors before turning to advancement. He has also taught psychology, served as faculty advisor to the Asian American Awareness Club, the Straight-Gay Alliance, and Project 10.
Ed is currently a commissioner on the CASE Commission on Philanthropy. A native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Ed graduated from Brown University in 1987 with a degree in psychology. Ed also worked in college admissions at Occidental College and Brown University. For his alma mater, Ed has served in a number of volunteer positions, including the Brown Alumni Association Board of Governors, national co-chair of the Multicultural Alumni Committee, advisor to the Asian American Alumni Alliance, board member of the Association of Class Leaders, the Co-Coordinator of the Brown Alumni Schools Committee of Los Angeles, and the President's Advisory Council on Diversity.
Robert Lu
Robert Lu is the founder and owner of BCI, a leading manufacturer of kitchen appliances and wall decor based in China. Lu was born and educated in Wuxi and Suzhou, China; he is self-educated in his post-secondary education. He and his family moved to the United States in 2013. Robert and his wife, Sophia, have two children, a 7th grade daughter at Harvard-Westlake and a son who graduated Harvard-Westlake in June 2019 and is a first-year at University of Chicago. Robert is very civically minded. He hopes to encourage the younger generation in China to spend time outdoors and to learn more about environmental issues. He is also involved in a non-profit senior center in China which takes care of 300 seniors. He also founded a kayaking association in China which organises national competitions and provides free lessons and equipment to youths.
Jimmy Robinson
Jimmy is Co-Founder and Director of PingPong Digital, an award-winning full service Chinese digital marketing agency based in the US, UK and China. Jimmy has worked with hundreds of businesses on their Chinese market strategy and is frequently invited by business groups and governments to give talks on how to market to China. He is a Chinese speaker and previously worked for M&C Saatchi in Beijing before co-founding PingPong Digital.
Steve Robinson
During Steve Robinson's career, he has thrived in the face of new challenges, whether in his role representing the government-in-exile of Kuwait following the invasion of Iraq, or working with the Russian state enterprise on the launch of the International Space Station, or developing a market-leading education practice in China.
Steve is recognised as the leading education lawyer in China and has worked with more than 70 education clients on their projects in China, including the establishment of Sino-foreign institutes and joint degree programmes, joint ventures, investments, and regulatory compliance issues. He also writes and speaks extensively about the Chinese legal environment and its impact on foreign participants.
Ron Roukema, EdD
Since joining Hong Kong International School in 2014, Dr Ronald (Ron) Roukema has served as Upper Primary Principal, Provost, and, since 2017, Interim Head of School. Prior to joining HKIS, Ron was Head of School for Marymount International School in Paris, France, a Principal at Shanghai American School--Pudong, and a principal in several public schools in Durham, North Carolina. Ron received his BA in History Education from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, an MA in School Administration from East Carolina University in North Carolina, and an EdD in Educational Leadership from North Carolina State University with a concentration in curriculum and instruction. Ron and his wife, Ashley, have three children.
Tom Smith Tseng
Tom Smith Tseng took up his current post at UC San Diego in January, 2018, tasked to develop a campus-wide international fundraising program. Prior to UCSD, Mr Tseng was vice president for development at the University of Hawai‘i Foundation. Tseng has had 25 years in university advancement with a particular focus on raising large gifts from abroad. He was a senior director at Stanford University's International Division. In 2006-2010, Tseng was senior director for the University of Chicago's satellite office in Palo Alto, California. Before that, he held progressively more responsible positions at Cornell, Harvard and Stanford Universities.
Tseng was a co-chair for this study tour in 2017 and 2018. Previously he presented on international fundraising at the CASE Summit in 2006 and 2017. In 2008 and 2011-13, he convened and chaired the International Fundraising Conferences, and served as conference chairman emeritus in 2014-15. He was also a faculty of the Advancement Institutes in Mandarin in 2011 and 2012.
Ann Wardwell
Ann joined the Hong Kong International School in July 2019. She brings a broad range and wealth of experience in leading Advancement teams through annual and capital campaigns and with endowments, planned giving, events, and data management, amongst others. Prior to HKIS, Ann served as the Director of Advancement at the Fay School, a K-9 independent school in Southborough MA. During her tenure at Fay, Ann led fundraising efforts for a number of capital projects such as a theatre renovation and new dormitory, as well as for endowments. Her accomplishments in the Advancement area prior to Fay School include helping to execute 250th anniversary events at The Governor’s Academy and while at Choate Rosemary Hall, successfully completing a US$200 million capital campaign in collaboration with her team of 32 development professionals. Ann has a strong background raising money in Asia dating back to 2008.
Ann’s professional career has also spanned other industries; she has held various management positions at the Marriott Corporation, Hyatt Hotels and American Express. A graduate of St. Louis University, Ann and her husband, Andrew, have two adult children, Sterling and Julia, who attended Fay School and then Deerfield Academy.
