The CBO/CAO Relationship is critical to the success of each professional. This panel will draw out the key issues within that relationship and how to apply best practices to ensure positive outcomes.
2:45–4:00 Review and Update on CASE Counting/Compare CASE Counting vs. FASB
CASE counting standards are currently being updated. The update will underscore the vast difference between them and FASB. These differences are important for both CBOs and CAOs to understand. This session will provide the update and those differences between CASE counting and FASB accounting.
4:15–5:30 Campaign Financing Model Embarking and executing a successful campaign means resources dedicated to the effort. There are different ways these resources can be provided and applied to maximize the probability of campaign success. We’ll review and detail those choices and their ramifications.
5:30–6:30 Networking Reception Join your fellow conference attendees to become acquainted and network across respective institutions.

9:00–10:15 Construction in Campaigns: Private support for upfront construction costs and ongoing maintenance costs: both are critical
Often campaign include goals for new campus construction. How these brick and mortar projects are financed through private support has complexities. This session will speak to those complexities and how fundraising initiatives address them.
10:30–11:45 Communications for Internal and External Constituents
We all have a wide range of constituents to communicate with – from faculty to filing an IRS 990 to top volunteers and donors. We’ll discuss the different constituents and how best to communicate updates and progress.

2:45–4:00 Panel Discussion: The need for common language between Finance and Advancement
This panel will pick up the discussion regarding communication between the CBO and CAO to discussion what can go wrong if it is not effective. Best and worst case scenarios will be described and discussed.
4:00–5:00 Faculty Q&A
We’ll end the day giving conference attendees the opportunity to question the full faculty on issues they face at their respective institutions.

9:00–10:15 Capitol Hill/Advocacy—What might you be facing?
We’ll finish the conference by looking at recent legislative developments from Capitol Hill, including tax changes and their impact on giving to colleges and universities. Learn how individuals and institutions can be proactive to influence possible changes and laws and regulations.
10:30–11:45 Next Steps and Implementation
How do we take these lessons back to campus and have successful partnerships?
