Michelle Cederberg
Michelle Cederberg, CSP is a newly inducted Hall of Fame Speaker and a Health and Productivity Expert who, for over 20 years, has captivated audiences across North America with her empowering and humorous messages that educate busy, driven professionals about how to set chase worthy goals, revive energy, and ignite high performance. As an in-demand speaker, author, coach, and consultant, she believes that success is directly influenced by how well we harness the physical, mental, and emotional capacity we each have within us. She enthusiastically calls on science to help people boost that capacity, so they can work and lead with confidence, and create the life and career they want. Michelle holds a Masters in Kinesiology, a BA in Psychology, a specialization in Health and Exercise Psychology, is a Certified Speaking Professional, Certified Exercise Physiologist and a High-Performance Coach. She truly combines mind, body, and practicality to inspire change. Michelle is the author of four books. Ellen Whitlock Baker
Ellen Whitlock Baker is passionate about working with leaders and organizations to support growth and realize potential. She brings a deep understanding of the higher education and nonprofit landscape and coaches clients to unlock their own power to make change, take on new challenges, and grow.
Ellen is a certified Executive Coach through the Hudson Institute and an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coaching Federation. She specializes in working with clients going through transitions, starting new positions, and who are feeling stuck and need help determining how to proceed. Her clients appreciate her kindness, empathy, authenticity and the accountability she provides to keep momentum going.
Ellen is a seasoned alumni engagement and higher education leader, having held leadership positions at the University of Washington and at Seattle University, where most recently she served as the Assistant Vice President, Alumni Engagement, overseeing alumni engagement and annual giving. Over her 20 years of work in the higher education and nonprofit sectors, Ellen has led teams in Marketing & Communications, Strategy and Analysis, Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement.
A member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)’s Alumni Commission, Ellen supports CASE’s work in advancing alumni engagement practices across the world. Passionate about developing community-centric engagement practices, Ellen champions meeting alumni and donors where they are and creating reciprocal and authentic engagement tactics that alumni find value in.
Ellen is a certified Everything DiSC practitioner, creating and executing workshops all over the country to help people work better together.

Tahsin Alam
Tahsin I. Alam is Associate Dean of Advancement for the Michael G. Foster School of Business at the University of Washington in Seattle. He serves as a member of the Foster Advisor Board and is part of the Dean’s senior leadership team and University Advancement’s Executive Leadership Team.
A higher education advancement industry veteran with over 17 years of experience in Presidential and Advancement professional searches, Mr. Alam began his career as an Associate with Isaacson Miller, a Boston-based national search firm. After eight years of working with the development and alumni relations search practice, Mr. Alam went on to become a Managing Associate with the Nonprofit Professional Advisory Group (NPAG), a boutique consulting firm with clients across the nonprofit sector. Here he served as a partner for the development and communications search practice, where in four years, the practice grew from inception to the most profitable practice at the firm. Tahsin has also conducted Presidential, Dean of Faculty, and Dean of Student level searches.
At the Rutgers University Foundation, Tahsin served as the Vice President for Advancement Services and Talent Management. He oversaw 70 employees across the departments of Talent Management, Donor Relations, Stewardship, Prospect Research, Prospect Management, Board Relations and Campaign Operations. His expertise is people and operational dynamics with a strong focus on data driven decision making and measurable outcomes. Mr. Alam holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, Economics and Theater from Bates College and a Master’s in Organizational Communications from Rutgers University’s School of Communication and Information. He is a native of Bangladesh.
Amber Arthur
Amber has worked as a fundraiser in Canada and Thailand for the past twenty years, for both small and large organizations. Her passion for connecting people and driving impact has given her a deep appreciation for the crucial role charities play in addressing challenges for current and future generations.
She completed her BA in Asian Studies and Political Science, followed by a Post-Baccalaureate in International Business in Vancouver, Canada. In 2012, she earned her CFRE certification and now serves as the Manager of Leadership Giving at the University of Victoria. Dedicated to advancing the university's ambitious fundraising goals, Amber empowers her exceptional team and fosters collaboration with internal and external partners.
Originally from a small town in BC's Kootenay region, Amber is grateful for growing up on the traditional and unceded territory of the Ktunaxa, Kinbasket (Secwepemc), Syilx, and Sinixt Peoples. As a child, she spent much of her time exploring the mountains and deer trails with her horse and dog. As an adult, she continues to seek adventure, often exploring forests with her partner Matt, their two young daughters, and their pup Diesel (or "Deezy").
Chantal Beaver
Chantal Beaver is the Associate Vice President, Public Engagement at Keyano College. She also serves as the Chair for the 2025 CASE District VIII Annual Conference.
Miranda Beierman
With six years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, Miranda Beiermann's career is rooted in creating opportunities within her community, especially promoting education access. As an alum, she currently serves Pacific Lutheran University as the Director of Donor Communications, leading annual giving and donor relations efforts. In this role, she oversees key strategies such as broad-based fundraising campaigns, donor engagement, and the development of a digital-first mid-level giving program. Additionally, Miranda is the Executive Director of the Franklin Pierce Foundation, where she leads fundraising, administration, and the distribution of scholarships to support students in her local school district. Living and working in the Parkland community of Tacoma, WA, Miranda fulfills both of her roles to uplift her neighbors through community-centered fundraising practices and equity-driven decision-making. Miranda holds a Master of Public Administration degree, and was recently featured in South Sound Business Magazine's 2024 cohort of 40 local leaders under 40. Passionate about powerful storytelling, effective fund development, and efficient project management, Miranda is dedicated to supporting community-focused initiatives.

Tomitha J. Blake
Tomitha Blake serves as the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic & Student Affairs at the University of Washington leading the advancement efforts for five central units responsible for the access, success and diversity of 60,000 students. For 25+ years, she has championed access to higher education as an antidote to inequities and a pathway to opportunities. She has helped launch, lead and close successful comprehensive campaigns in support of capital projects, research, student learning outcomes, access, DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging), and social impact.
Tomitha is known for building and motivating high performing, inclusive and engaged teams, leading through tough changes with a big heart, and creating innovative philanthropic strategy to drive the value proposition of higher education.
Matthew Brinton
Dr. Brinton is a higher education professional with more than 16 years of experience working in advancement, academic affairs, student affairs, and athletics. He currently works at the University of Washington as the Director for Advancement for the Division of Student Life. In his role he helps lead advancement efforts in support of student access, diversity and success across more than 15 units in the division. Matthew holds a BS in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), an MA in Higher Education with an emphasis in Student Development from the University of Denver and a PhD in Higher Education and Student Affairs Leadership from UNC.
Jennifer Bryan
Jennifer Bryan joined Capilano University in 2019 and serves as the Director, Philanthropy & Alumni Relations in its University Relations portfolio. An experienced fundraising professional driven by innovation and creativity, her advancement career has taken her around the world. Working in such diverse settings as an international school in Doha, Qatar to an award-winning non-profit radio station in Toronto, Ontario, Jennifer’s commitment to building strong donor relationships has led to many successful events, major gifts, and sponsorships. Jennifer lives in North Vancouver, loves the outdoors and actively volunteers with Girl Guides of Canada.
Alex Campomanes
Alex Campomanes serves as the Executive Director of Advancement Services at the University of Manitoba, a position he assumed four years ago. In this time, he has orchestrated a significant transformation within the department, shifting it from a service-based model to a dynamic, IT-focused unit.
One of his key accomplishments was migrating the CRM system from on-premises to the cloud, boosting efficiency and scalability. Furthermore, he led the successful implementation of a cutting-edge data warehouse, laying the foundation for data-driven decision-making that aligns seamlessly with the university's strategic objectives.
With more than 25 years of experience in IT, analytics, and leadership across diverse industries, Alex brings a wealth of expertise to his role. He possesses a remarkable ability to cultivate a data-driven culture, elevating data from mere information to a cornerstone for the university's decision-making processes.
Karina Chow
Karina Chow is a seasoned professional with a rich background in non-profit administration, donor development and major gifts. Currently, she serves as the Director of Advancement for the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Simon Fraser University, where she leads strategies to grow philanthropic support. Prior to this, Karina spent over eight years at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, where she held various roles, including Director of Philanthropy and Associate Director of Development. She is also a certified Dare to Lead and CFRE professional. Karina is known for her strong leadership skills, innovative approach, and commitment to making a difference. She is passionate about supporting key donors and working with dedicated teams to achieve organizational goals.
Andrea Christensen
Whether it is guiding a new graduate to get traction in their job search or exploring options for a pivot with a mid-career professional, Andrea enjoys supporting alumni at all ages and stages of their careers. With 10 years of experience in the career development field, along with many more as a teacher, instructor and small business operator, she’s passionate about helping others design meaningful and purposeful lives. She is a life-long learner, collaborator, and career development guru with a knack for finding creative and innovative solutions to everyday challenges.

Aaron Clarry
Aaron Clarry is the Assistant Vice President for Advancement Services at Seattle University, where he oversees prospect development, data and systems management, and gift processing operations. A double alum of Seattle University, he brings a deep commitment and insider perspective to his role, leveraging 14 years of experience in development. Aaron is dedicated to strengthening alumni engagement and expanding the university's philanthropic initiatives through data-informed strategies and complex business systems development.

Sara Dier
As an industry professional for the last 14 years, Sara Dier (“Deer”) leads strategies for annual giving stewardship and engagement at the Oregon State University Foundation. She runs programs associated with recognition, retention and volunteerism for OSUF's leadership annual giving circle, affinity programs, women's leadership giving, parent advancement and employee participation. Prior to her time at OSU, Sara was the foundation director for Clackamas Community College, establishing comprehensive fundraising strategies for annual and major giving while chairing the Oregon Community College Foundation Consortium.
Dave Fitzpatrick
Dave has dedicated over twenty-five years to his career as an educator, enjoying roles as both a classroom teacher and an administrator. With a background teaching English and History, Dave has also held pivotal positions such as Head of the English Department and Dean of Students, demonstrating a commitment to academic excellence and student development.
Driven by a passion for growth and exploration, Dave embraced a new challenge as Director of Advancement at St. George's School, Vancouver and now leads initiatives to build community, to enhance the educational landscape, and to strengthen institutional foundations. This transition not only underscores Dave's adaptability but also highlights a keen interest in the broader facets of independent school leadership.
Beyond the professional sphere, Dave is a dedicated outdoorsman, finding solace and inspiration in activities such as running, hiking, skiing, and cycling. With a penchant for adventure, Dave can often be found on the trails with friends, family, and their faithful pup, Panda, or navigating the waters of the Pacific either aboard a small boat or atop a paddleboard.

Crystal Froembling
Crystal Froembling is a Senior Director of Development at the Portland State University Foundation. She is passionate about the power of philanthropy and has spent nearly 20 years in fundraising and communications, most of which focused on education and advocacy.
Prior to joining the PSU Foundation, she led the Major Gifts team at the Portland Community College Foundation, and before that, worked at the PSU Foundation for a decade. (Boomerang staffing happens!) She also serves on the Board of the People's Nonprofit Accelerator and teaches major gift work to development professionals in an online nonprofit fundraising certificate. Time management, project planning, and herding cats are specialties that Crystal is well known for. As a first-generation, working student and single mother, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences and a Master of Public Administration in Nonprofit Management from Portland State University's Hatfield School of Government. Crystal is also a recently certified Clifton Strengths Coach. Getting stuff done is exhilarating, but we'll discuss in this session the importance of getting the right things done and sustaining your fire over the long haul.
Amanda Gabriel-Landis
Amanda Gabriel-Landis has worked in communications and marketing for Portland State University and its Foundation for three years. She helps to drive digital strategy to the Annual Giving, Alumni Engagement, and Events programs. Before working in higher education, Amanda had 10+ years of experience working for tech start-ups, overseeing customer communication and retention.
Michelle Green
Michelle Green’s career journey has been packed with both excitement and fulfillment, from her fundraising positions at the University of South Dakota and the University of South Dakota Foundation to volunteering as a District 6 cabinet member for CASE to her consulting role at BWF. She believes that shared success is the best success and is passionate about philanthropy as it gives each of us the ability to reach out and touch the future.
As an associate vice president at BWF, Michelle helps organizations achieve their goals, overcome hurdles, and gain new insights into their challenges. Her areas of expertise include alumni relations, annual giving, development, campaign planning, and building strong teams. Helping connect people and priorities to make the world a better place, advance a noble mission, or improve lives inspires Michelle. She is humbled to serve nonprofit organizations and those who believe in them, as they provide a platform for philanthropists to fulfill their dreams.
Edgar Gonzalez
Edgar Gonzalez is an experienced and proven leader, team-builder, and collaborator with almost 20 years of experience in higher education advancement and program development. He currently serves as Vice President of University Advancement at Seattle University. Prior to joining Seattle University, Edgar held leadership roles at Oregon Health and Science University, the University of Washington, and the Alliance for Education.
A native of Argentina, Edgar and his family emigrated to the US when he was 9 years old in pursuit of the American dream. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington, he has dedicated his entire career to working in higher education and ensuring that everyone has access. Edgar is passionate about the positive impact philanthropy can have on the institutions, communities, and individuals he is fortunate to serve. His career has always been focused on building institutional capacity through cultivating deep relationships, transformative philanthropy, leadership development and impactful storytelling.
Jessica Halliday
Jessica has more than 10 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector and has been a dedicated member of the Stewardship team at the University of Calgary since 2016. With a strong background in frontline fundraising and event specialization, Jessica brings a wealth of experience to her current role. Her primary area of expertise lies in the risk mitigation and philosophical nuances of naming, where she navigates the complexities of donor recognition to ensure meaningful and thoughtful donor experiences.
Jessica's true passion is experiencing the everyday moments of joy and discovery with her nine-year-old son.
Rubi Harney
Rubi Harney is an Associate Director of Development at the University of Oregon, where she has worked for six years, primarily in assistant capacities. Rubi aims to become a "Double Duck" and is pursuing a Master of Nonprofit Management degree. Being a current student provides Rubi with a lot of insight to share with valued alumni donors in her current capacity as a mid-level fundraiser. When not working or doing homework, Rubi enjoys spending time with her family and cooking authentic Mexican food from recipes learned from her mother.
Katie Hearn
Katie is a long-time member of the SFU community, having completed both her BA and MA in History at SFU and, since October 2022, has been the Senior Associate Director of Advancement for the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
After completing her degrees at SFU, Katie went to work in the non-profit sector so she could use the skills she learned at SFU to have a positive impact on the world. As a fundraiser at Heart & Stroke, she worked with major donors and corporations to fund preventative health education, lifesaving research, and essential programs to support those living with the effects of heart disease and stroke. Katie left Heart & Stroke to take on the role of Director of Communications, Brand, and Marketing for Little Kitchen Academy, a Montessori-inspired cooking school for children, which she helped grow from just one location open in Vancouver to nine across North America and more than 100 in development.
In her spare time, Katie loves reading a good book with a cup of tea, spinning on her Peloton, and baking delicious gluten-free treats.
Cathleen Hockman-Wert
Cathleen Hockman-Wert has been a writer and editor with the Oregon State University Foundation for 18 years and leads its writing team. Her work encompasses projects in communications, stewardship, annual giving, events and major gift fundraising. She previously worked for more than a decade in journalism for Mennonite Church USA and earned a master’s degree in journalism from University of Oregon.
Sofia Janmohamed
With more than 23 years of experience in the fundraising sector, Sofia Janmohamed, MBA, CFRE, is the Executive Director, Development at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her role provides executive leadership to pipeline development, working closely with individuals, foundations and corporations, as well as providing leadership for faculty fundraising, gift and estate planning, and principal giving. She has also held senior level fundraising roles with the healthcare sector.
Sofia serves as the Educational Programming Liaison on the CASE District VIII Cabinet and is on the Board of Directors of the Association of Fundraising Professional (AFP) Canada. She previously served as the AFP Greater Vancouver Chapter President from 2020-2023.
Sofia became a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) in 2010 and completed her Master of Business Administration in 2016. She is an AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising instructor, Mentor, and a contributing author to Excellence in Fundraising in Canada Volume 1 Second Edition. Sofia was awarded Outstanding Fundraising Professional by Charity Village in 2021.
Lisa Kozleski
In the summer of 2024, Lisa Kozleski was thrilled to return to her alma mater, the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., to serve as editor of Arches. She had spent the first half of her career working at newspapers, including the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Allentown Morning Call, and the second half working in post-secondary education, including seven years teaching academic writing at the University of Lethbridge and almost 13 years working as Lethbridge Polytechnic’s senior writer and editor of Wider Horizons, an award-winning alumni magazine.
Erin Mason
Erin Mason, BPR, CAAP, is the manager, alumni programs & services at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta. She has fourteen years of progressive alumni engagement experience across communications, marketing and program development, including eight years leading alumni programming teams. She is actively building a scalable, personalised and measurable alumni program aligned to Mount Royal's vision and mission, and unique culture.
Josh McInerney
Josh McInerney RGD is a creative director, graphic designer, public speaker, and creative team leader with over 18 years of experience.
Josh's career spans a wide range of achievements and experiences in the creative industry. He has held key positions such as the Manager of Design and Creative at TMU University (formerly Ryerson University) and served as the former Creative Director and Partner at Modu Design Communications. Currently, he is the Manager of Creative Services at Bow Valley College in Alberta.
Throughout his career, Josh has had the privilege of working with clients like BMW, Manulife Financial, Cineplex, The University of Toronto, The Writers Trust of Canada, and Grand and Toy, among others. Leveraging his experience as a former business owner, he has also dedicated his time to assist budding tech entrepreneurs in establishing their brands and effectively pitching their stories to secure early round investment.
As a public speaker, Josh has held talks at numerous conferences on branding, design, and creative thinking. He has delivered talks at institutions like the Schulich School of Business and events like the Design Thinkers Conference in Toronto.
Josh has also sat on numerous design judging panels both in Canada and the US including being a design judge for the Juno Awards.
His work has been recognized from design organizations such as HOW Magazine, RGD In-House Awards, Graphic Design USA, The Anvil Awards and the University and Colleges Designer Association (UCDA).
When he's not immersed in design (which is a rare ), you'll find him chasing after his two children, experimenting with his culinary skills (occasionally burning a perfectly good risotto), or playing a pretty bad ass blues harmonica.
Felicity Meu
Felicity Meu has extensive experience in educational fundraising having spent nine years with Stanford’s Office of Development. As Stanford’s inaugural Director of Next Generation Giving, she worked closely with individual donors and volunteers but also helped craft the University’s vision for engaging its next great generation of philanthropists. Leaning into the needs of young donors, Felicity spent time consulting for Stanford’s Effective Philanthropy Lab, working on a project dedicated to taking a deep dive into better understanding the needs of millennial donors. Since 2017 she has led GiveCampus' Partner Success team.
Jenny Minniti-Shippey
Jenny Minniti- Shippey is a Senior Associate Director of Leadership Annual Giving Programs at University of Oregon. She has worked as a frontline fundraiser at UO since 2020; previously, she served as faculty at San Diego State University, managing editor of Poetry International literary journal, and director of development at the Contemporary Irish Arts Center Los Angeles (CIACLA).
Marko Pajalic
Marko is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that engage the campus community in activities of the Equity & Inclusion Office and help advance and demonstrate UBC’s commitment to excellence, diversity, and inclusion. A UBC alum, Marko brings experience of working in higher education, research, local and federal government, consulting, and non-profit settings. Prior to joining the Equity & Inclusion Office, Marko managed communication and engagement efforts with the UBC Sustainability Initiative. As part of his undergraduate and graduate degrees, Marko studied international conflict, human security, good governance and geo-politics. He completed a certificate in public participation from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) and continues to pursue professional development related to communications, public relations, and management.

Carol Perales is the Associate Director of Annual Giving for the Portland State University Foundation.
Erin Peterson
Erin Peterson is the owner of Capstone Communications, which provides strategy and storytelling for print alumni magazines and other major print publications.
Capstone has worked with more than 100 alumni magazine clients across the country. Before founding Capstone, Erin was an editor at alumni magazines for Grinnell College, Carleton College, and Macalester College.
Erin and Capstone have earned significant recognition for alumni magazine work. This includes the Sibley Magazine of the Year, the field’s highest honor.
Other awards include CASE Gold for feature writing as well as gold awards for feature and profile writing from BrilliantED and the Minnesota Magazine Publishing Association.
Erin’s thought leadership and ideas have been included in public radio’s Marketplace Inside Higher Ed, CASE Currents, Nonprofit Communications Report, and The Higher Ed Marketer podcast.
Andrew Phillips
Drew Phillips is the Director of Pipeline Development at the Oregon State University Foundation, where he is responsible for the overall orchestration of pipeline development efforts at OSUF. Drew's work includes driving lead generation, building and optimizing OSUF's discovery program, providing oversight and administration of its donor experience (DXO) program, and more.
Drew started his career at OSUF in 2010, shortly after graduating from their heated rival, the University of Oregon. Having spent the last 14 years working his way from administrative assistant to his current role, he has been fortunate to fill a number of roles with increasing responsibility at OSUF.
On the weekends you can find him regaling his wife with obscure NBA facts that no well-adjusted person could possibly find interesting. Sorry, Erin.
Jenna Proctor
Jenna Proctor is an Assistant Director of Relationships Insights at the Oregon State University Foundation. In this role she partners closely with development leadership to ensure proposal pipelines and portfolios are robust and well positioned to meet organizational fundraising goals. Jenna joined the OSU Foundation in 2016 and previously worked as a Research Analyst. She earned her H.B.A. from Oregon State University and is currently pursuing a M.S. in History from Oregon State University.
Kathleen Ralph
Kathleen is a mentorship specialist in post-secondary education based in Canada, with a passion for fostering meaningful connections between alumni and students. With a strong background in student engagement and creating non-academic programming, she excels in creating impactful mentorship initiatives that enhance alumni engagement. Kathleen's expertise lies in developing innovative strategies that bridge the gap between education and career success, ensuring that students are well-equipped for their professional journeys. Her dedication to building supportive mentorship communities has made her a go-to resource for her peers in post-secondary. In addition to her work in education, Kathleen is also an accomplished artist, bringing a creative and insightful perspective to her professional endeavors.

Jason Redcedar is the Director of Web Applications at Willamette University.
Jamil Rhajiak
Jamil has a background in project management and digital communications. He has held many different roles at the University of British Columbia (UBC) across academic and administrative units, blending his passion for student affairs, community building, and communications. As Associate Director, Brand Communications his focus is on growing the reputation of the university at every touchpoint and championing the UBC brand.
Barb Richey
Born and raised in Spokane, Washington, Barb attended West Valley High School and graduated from Eastern Washington University with both her Bachelor and Master degrees. She is also a graduate of the Wharton School of Business – Executive Leadership for Women Certificate. She has worked in the nonprofit and not for profit sectors most of her career with the Spokane Regional Health District, STCU (Spokane Teachers Credit Union), Eastern Washington University and Pacific University in Oregon. She is the current Vice President of University Advancement and Executive Director of the EWU Foundation. She volunteers most of her time and serves on the City of Spokane’s Park Board, Canopy Credit Union Board of Directors as Vice President. She as past treasurer of the Spokane Sports Commission Board of Directors and was critical in voting for The Podium – a newly constructed sportsplex in DT Spokane. In her spare time, she loves to climb mountains, garden, travel internationally and golf.

Margaret Savoian
Margaret Savoian is a Director of Development at University of Oregon. She represents the Libraries as part of the Academics, Research, and Faculty team. A proud triple Duck, Margaret has bachelor's degrees in accounting and sociology, a master's degree in accounting, and a graduate certificate in nonprofit management, all from the UO. After several years in public accounting, she returned to her alma mater 17 years ago as a career switch to work in administration and development support. It was in that role that she became intrigued with the idea of frontline fundraising and became a development officer nearly five years ago. She finds the work incredibly meaningful and hasn't looked back.
Matthew Smith
Matthew Smith is the Senior Director of Relationship Insights at the Oregon State University Foundation (OSUF). With over 12 years of experience in philanthropy, Matt came to OSUF in 2019 from Baltimore, Maryland, where he was the Data Analytics Manager at Catholic Relief Services (CRS), an international relief non-profit. Prior to CRS Matt worked in higher education and healthcare fundraising, focusing primarily on data analytics and relationship management. Matt has a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He’s currently working on his second bachelor’s degree in computer science at Oregon State University.
Peter Smits
Dr. Peter Smits is Vice President Emeritus at California State University, Fresno. With over 40 years’ experience in the advancement arena for higher education, he has extensive expertise with fundraising and campaigns, alumni relations, communications and foundation management. He is currently Senior Consultant with The Phoenix Philanthropy Group. When he was a Senior Fellow with CASE International, his research interests included the ways in which campuses identify, measure, and grow their culture of philanthropy. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of California Health Sciences University, an accredited medical school in Clovis, CA.
Fresno State completed its first comprehensive campaign in 2013 and surpassed its $200 million campaign goal by 7%, reaching $214.2 million. One campaign highlight included the largest cash gift in the history of the CSU, $29.4 million.
A former member of the CASE District VII board of directors and its Executive Committee, Peter was a member of the CASE Commission on Philanthropy, was the most senior vice president in the 23-campus California State University system and was the inaugural chair of the CSU Council of Vice Presidents. He is past president of the Central California chapter of AFP, and a recipient of that chapter’s Fundraising Executive of the Year award. He recently received the CASE Tribute Award.
Peter has presented at workshops, seminars and conferences for CASE International, CASE Districts VII and VIII, the Association of Governing Boards and the Association for Fundraising Professionals. He frequently serves as a workshop or retreat facilitator for foundation boards and alumni boards.
Prior to his appointment at Fresno State, he served as Vice President for Advancement at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in western Pennsylvania. He has also served as Executive Assistant to the Chancellor at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Vice President for College Relations and Development at the State University of New York at Brockport and Dean of Students at The College of White Plains in New York. He has served as Interim Vice President for Advancement at Chico State, Sonoma State and San José State.
Dr. Smits earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the State University of New York at Albany, and the Ph.D. from the University of Buffalo. He completed post-doctoral work at Harvard University.
Zoran Stjepanovic
Zoran Stjepanovic has been an integral part of Capilano University since October 2017, serving as the Philanthropy Officer for Individual Giving. In this role, he is dedicated to securing support for the university's fundraising priorities and fostering strong donor relationships. With a career in the philanthropic sector dating back to 2010, Zoran has a proven track record of creating and leading successful annual appeals, fundraising events, sponsorship opportunities, and donor engagement initiatives.
JR Tarabocchia
J.R. Tarabocchia is the AVP for Institutional Marketing at Willamette University, responsible for overseeing all marketing initiatives aimed at enrolling new students. Before his current role, he served as the Assistant Dean of Recruitment and Student Activities at the Willamette University College of Law where he successfully led the admissions office to a remarkable 50% increase in enrollment over a period of four years.
Before joining Willamette University in July 2015, Tarabocchia had a rich background in higher education, having spent nearly a decade at Portland State University in a variety of roles. During this time, he organized commencement ceremonies, led student ambassadors, established a welcome center, wrote the student employment handbook, recruited undergraduate students, worked in the Dean of Students office, secured corporate sponsorships, and co-founded a faculty/staff community chorus.
In his free time, Tarabocchia enjoys a range of hobbies including rowing, swimming, cooking (and eating), playing the piano and the accordion (separately), and spending time with his family.
Connor Tudbury
Connor Tudbury is the Director of Annual Giving at the Portland State University Foundation. With nearly a decade of experience in the field, Connor brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his current position. Before joining PSU, he served in various capacities at Boise State University for over six years, including Director of Annual Giving, Assistant Director of Development for Annual and Digital Giving, and Phonathon Manager. His extensive background in development and fundraising has been instrumental in driving successful annual giving campaigns and fostering donor engagement.
Janelle Wakaruk
Janelle is Executive Director of Development, Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, and part of the Office of Advancement’s leadership team. She leads a talented group of professionals dedicated to creating meaningful philanthropic experiences for donors. With over 20 years of development experience, Janelle has gained significant expertise in building successful partnerships and developing complex, transformative fundraising priorities. She has served on the CASE DVIII Cabinet since 2017 and is currently Chair-Elect. Passionate about supporting the potential of young women worldwide, Janelle volunteers for numerous local and international organizations. Janelle is also a proud UCalgary Alumna.
Cheryl Webb
Cheryl grew up near Vancouver, BC, Canada. She and her family accidentally spent 24 delightful years in Ontario before returning to BC in 2022. She's grateful to live, work, and play on the lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples of the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations.
As a Leadership Giving Officer at the University of Victoria, Cheryl works with donors, alumni, and community partners to support the university's strategic priorities and impact. While fundraising is a relatively new career for Cheryl, she has over 15 years of experience in leadership and communication in educational and non-profit settings, with a focus on building relationships and fostering collaboration.
Cheryl holds an MA in Leadership from Royal Roads University, where she explored the topics of face-to-face communication, servant leadership, and communities of practice. She is committed to serving organizations and communities, with curiosity and connection, towards the flourishing of all.
Cheryl loves learning, meaningful face-to-face conversation, and coffee. She is partner to Owen, a mom to two university students, and favourite treat-supplier of Peter the Cat.
