Through an indigenous lens of knowledge transfer, appreciation of culture and the inextricable link to country, Professor Deen Sanders OAM will highlight the frontline responsibility of advancement practitioners in building trust, understanding the importance of cultural awareness, and celebrating diversity in our institutions.
In our engagement and philanthropic endeavours, we seek to understand, appreciate, and honour our alumni and supporters. This conference provides an opportunity to create a similar environment for our professional community.
As we gather in Melbourne this May to learn, develop new perspectives, and reinforce the importance of relationship in everything we do, this opening plenary session will be a catalyst for greater conversation and the exchange of ideas.

Deen Sanders OAM
Proud Worimi man and Giparr (cultural leader) in his community, Deen leads Deloitte’s Integrity practice and is recognised as a global expert in the field of professions, regulation, ethics and law. Deen has held leadership roles in the commercial sector, CEO roles in corporate and government regulatory environments including inaugural CEO of FASEA where he developed the blueprint for the professional standards and ethics. He has a particular dedication to cultural leadership and the role that Indigenous Knowledge systems have in shaping the future of economics, law and policy.

Resilience 2.0: Mental Fitness
Advancement practitioners are operating In a world of constant workplace change and novel stressors and resilience—the ability to bounce back—has become sub-optimal. In order to successfully adapt to stressors and challenges and thrive under pressure, we need high levels of mental fitness. In this stimulating blend of neuroscience, psychology and physiology, Paul explores what mental fitness is, and goes through some evidence-based practices that we can all implement in our lives to move up the mental fitness continuum.

Paul Taylor
Paul is an Exercise Physiologist, Nutritionist and Neuroscientist who is currently completing a PhD in Applied Psychology, where he is developing and testing resilience strategies with the Australian Defence Science Technology Group & The University of Newcastle.
As Director of The Mind-Body-Brain Performance Institute, Paul delivers resilience, leadership and performance workshops to companies such as J&J, Oracle, SAP, PWC, NAB, CBA, BUPA, & the Australian Military.
Paul is the host of The MindBodyBrain Project Podcast and his latest venture is The Resilient Mind, an online programme and App that is currently used by a number of Corporations and has proven benefits for resilience, mental wellbeing and levels of burnout of participants. In 2023, he published the book 'Death By Comfort'.
