Evolution of Talent Management
The discipline and practice of talent management has evolved significantly over the past few decades, and so have the goals we aim to achieve, the tools we have at our disposal, and the professionals who are committed to this work. In this session, Yvette Marsh (LSU Foundation) and Brittany Wilhelm (Harvard University Alumni Affairs & Development) will briefly discuss the four major evolutionary phases of talent management, share the origin stories behind LSU’s and Harvard’s talent management programs and highlight some of the experiential differences between university and foundation environments. We will also engage the room to learn from each other and offer insights on which battles to fight, which landmines to avoid, and which goals to strive for in creating (or evolving) your own TM program. This session will be most valuable for colleagues who are newer to talent management, though we welcome wisdom, insight, and curiosity from practitioners of all levels.

Challenging Staff Dynamics: How Managing Staff Effectively Can Impact Retention
Our colleagues can be the best – and worst – parts of our job. We rely on each other to grow and thrive professionally… or at the very least, to get the work done. But what happens when one person distracts, disrupts, or throws a team into disarray? And as we continue to navigate the Great Resignation, an increase in flexible-work options, and connecting with staff more frequently over computer screens than coffee cups, how do we mitigate negativity and maximize productivity and positivity? This session will offer advice and guidance to help attendees minimize the impact of a difficult employee on team morale, managers’ time, and organizational success.

Playing to Win in the “Career Jungle Gym”
As organizations become more agile, climbing the ladder isn’t what it used to be. This session will briefly introduce the Career Jungle Gym – a new model for a new workforce, then dive into the tough situations staff and managers encounter navigating this wider, but also more ambiguous, world of career development. How do I breakthrough the bottleneck in my organization when there are so many more staff than there are advancement opportunities? How soon can/should I move into a new role? How can I grow when it takes experience to get experience? Do managers or recruiters actually see (or care about) my transferable skills? If these are the kinds of questions coming to your talent management team, you are not alone. This session will help you and your organization think very differently about the rules of the game, so we can all play to win!
