How to Analyze Donor Behavior and Retention by building and using a Sankey diagram
We created a visualization to better understand our donor behaviors. Previously, donor trends were analyzed in a two-dimensional way. They were tracked year after year basis in buckets by giving levels. However, it was unclear if a unique donor was increasing, decreasing, or remaining in the same giving level. Using the Sankey diagram provides a visual of the donor flow and creates a more strategic approach to viewing their behavior. Also, provides opportunity for more personalized strategies. For example, creating targeted messaging to donors that are giving less and on the other hand encouraging donors that are increasing their donations.

The Data Science Order of Operations and Hierarchy of Needs
Many of us have heard the adage that data science can require spending upwards of 80% of your time and effort in acquiring, building and cleaning data sets. As organizations seek to expand data capacity and modernize data science practices within their diverse and growing teams, many data leaders and practitioners face numerous, complex issues: cold start problems, data literacy gaps, entropy, staffing challenges, technical/process debt, and so on. In this robust workshop, we will discuss a variety of practical approaches and modern perspectives to build, scale and enhance data science capacity, operations and solution delivery within your learning organizations.

How Do We Lead on Data Equity?
Big Data became a ubiquitous and somewhat meaningless term gradually but has played a role in making us continue to think about the amount and types of data we collect. As society continues to work on building fair and equitable systems our sector also continues to strive toward creating practices grounded in equity. Data collection, storage, management, and manipulation need to be addressed through the lens of equity, community representation/protection, and accessibility. In this panel discussion, we are going to explore ideas about what’s holding the non-profit sector back from building and sharing data equity practices besides staff and budget.

Managing Technical Debt: How to Increase Team Retention, Boost Employee Morale, and Unleash Innovation!
With the ever-growing need for data products, technical debt (and data debt) can be leveraged positively to provide timely insights into prospect engagement or donor segmentation.
However, like its financial counterpart, it can adversely affect staff morale, impair a team's velocity and impact overall productivity, if it is not managed.
In this session, we'll cover what technical debt is, differentiate the types and their effects on your strategies and leadership, and walk through techniques that you can use to empower your staff in assessing, mitigating, and planning your technical debt - so your team can focus on innovating.

TestDrive Session (Anthology): The Ins and Outs of Engagement Analytics and Using Data to Drive Change
This session will focus on the power of using engagement analytics to understand and increase alumni engagement. Engagement scoring allows a focus on areas where potential is greatest; by thoughtfully presenting the data to stakeholders, teams will be more open to adjusting strategies, and tracking the impact of changes. We’ll cover steps for getting started in creating engagement scoring models, ranging from simple to complex. We'll also discuss what data to include in a scoring model, how to develop buy-in for a project, and, most importantly, how to use the results to inform strategy and tactics. Hear how your peers are using engagement analytics to 1) broaden the data conversation across advancement, 2) identify new opportunities for engagement, and 3) set goals. Learn about some of the pitfalls to avoid with engagement data collection and how engagement analytics can help create a culture of data-based decision-making across your organization.
